Gordon Garland MacPherson

March 20, 1940 ~ May 25, 2018 (age 78)

It is with great sadness, we the family of Gordon MacPherson announce his passing Friday May 25,2018 with his loving family by his side. Born in 1940, he was the son of the late Reid and Annie (Morrison) MacPherson. Gordon was a graduate of Sydney Academy, Junior College, and St. F.X.University. In 1962 he accepted a position with the Sydney Police Force, where he remained for ten years. In 1974, he returned to Acadia University obtaining his Bachelor of Education degree leading to many years of employment in the Adult Education Teaching field. Gordon was an avid outdoorsman, spending many enjoyable times in Loch Lomond, Northern Newfoundland and the Margaree, hunting and fishing. He loved gardening, reading and was a trusted friend to many. Gordon is survived by his loving wife Fran of 58 years, daughters LynneAnne (Ron) Lafitte, Tanna (Dr. Brian) Roxburgh, Sydney N.S., and son Dr. Gordon (Alcora)MacPherson, Chicago, Ill. He is also survived by grandchildren Bhreagh and John David Lafitte, Kirsti and Ciaran Roxburgh, Parker MacPherson, great grandchild Zachary Lafitte and brother Roger MacPherson, Ottawa,Ont. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother Hugh Reid MacPherson. To honour Gordon’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. A private internment will be held at a later date. The family extends a sincere thank you to the staff of 4C, Cape Breton Regional Hospital and his exceptional caregiver, Debbie Nichol. Thank you also to Dr. McCarville and Dr. Shimon for providing wonderful care during his hospital stay and to Dr. R. Sebastian and Dr. Phillip Curry for excellent care over many years.
